The dark green and nutty-bitter-smelling tamanu oil (Calophyllum inophyllum or Calophyllum tacamahaca) is extracted from the seeds of the evergreen tamanu tree and is the gold standard for regenerating and healing the skin. This rare oil is exceptional for skin care as it is antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-scarring, astringent, healing and can even absorb UV rays.

The tamanu tree originates from South East Asia and grows in Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, among other places. This tree grows up to 35 metres tall and is recognisable by its dark, rough bark and elliptical leaves. The tree blossoms twice a year, with the flowers gradually turning into yellowish fruits. These fruits have an apple-like flavour and inside them is the "tamanu nut", which is dried for at least 2 months and from which tamanu oil is then produced by cold pressing.

Studies have repeatedly proven the healing effect of tamanu oil. It has even been proven that tamanu oil can repair damaged tissue! Tamanu oil can therefore be used as a facial oil for dehydrated and reddened, sensitive skin, and also to heal scars, stretch marks, cuts, burns and rashes.
Due to its properties, Tamanu oil is used especially when the skin is or has been exposed to the sun and as an anti-ageing oil, as it regenerates stressed and tired skin. It soothes and nourishes very dry and reddened skin, and even calms and heals acne.
