What is a Konjac sponge? A Konjac sponge is made from the fibre of the Konjac root. This grows in Japan, Korea and China and has been known as an edible plant for over 1500 years. Konjac contains a range of important minerals, as well as protein, zinc, iron, vitamins A, E, D, B1, B2, B6 and B12, vitamin C and much more.

What is a Konjac sponge

If you've never seen a Konjac sponge before, you might wonder why you should let such a dry piece of sponge touch your skin - but anyone who knows Konjac will reach for this ingenious little helper again and again!

Konjac sponges are packed in an air-sealed plastic bag so that neither air nor moisture or anything else can come into contact with the sponge. Accordingly, the sponge smells like nothing at all - just like the root fibre itself - and is completely stiff as long as it is dry. If you hold the sponge under running water, it quickly becomes soft and fluffy.

The damp sponge can then be used to gently cleanse and lightly exfoliate the skin. The green clay in particular helps to soothe impurities and inflammation and purify oily skin. You are left with fresh, rosy skin and the feeling that you have just been massaged (on your face). The skin appears clean and well supplied with blood (this is also due to the circular massage with the sponge and the gentle exfoliation).

Konjac is an exotic ingredient and will soon be available as a superfood. Its cleansing, nourishing and healing effect, especially in combination with clays and plants, is unique and its use is long-lasting.

Application: Moisten the sponge with clear water until it is soft and then massage the face, neck and décolleté in circular movements. Rinse the sponge with clean water and repeat. After cleansing, rinse the sponge well with clean water and allow to dry thoroughly, preferably by hanging it from the attached cord. If the sponge remains damp or even lies in water, fungi will grow on it and it can no longer be used for cleaning.

The sponge can be used on its own, no other products are needed to cleanse the skin. However, if you want to deep cleanse or intensively nourish the skin, you can use the Konjac sponge to work cleansing creams, balms or oils deeper into the skin! We are huge fans of the Konjac-Stark Grapefruit Balm combination! Apply a small dab of balm to the cleansed sponge and gently work into the skin.

A sponge can be used for up to 3 months if it is used daily, otherwise even longer. When the fibres become worn, the sponge can be replaced.
