Ever since the award-winning documentary film "More Than Honey", we have been aware of how important bees are for people and nature. To support our little friends - and life-sustainers for mankind! - and draw attention to this issue, Biomazing's superfood star of the week is the bees' golden nectar: Honey.
Honey is one of the oldest household remedies because it heals, has an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect and tastes pleasantly sweet. In addition to sweetening tea, honey can do much more than just replace the unhealthier white sugar:
Honey as an energy booster
Instead of biscuits and chocolate, reach for a spoonful of honey next time. The carbohydrates in honey increase energy and provide a real boost, while natural glucose prevents a low after the carbohydrate high. Before an important meeting, for a snack or before a power workout, honey provides healthy, long-lasting instant energy.
Honey heals scars and acne
Honey contains natural hydrogen peroxide, which is why it is antibacterial. When applied to inflammations of all kinds, wounds, burns, cuts and even acne, honey unfolds its healing and antibacterial effect. Existing inflammations are reduced and new ones are prevented, scars and wounds heal better and faster.
Honey for dry, irritated skin
Honey has a moisturising and antiseptic effect and is therefore ideal as a face mask for tired, stressed and problematic skin. Apply the honey pure or mixed with a little powder mask (for example from Stark Skincare or pure clay from Safeas) to cleansed skin and leave on for a long time. If you don't want to mix it yourself, you can rely on the Honey regeneration mask from Safeas and their effect.
Tip: Your lips will especially appreciate an extra portion of honey!
Honey against (irritating) coughs
A number of studies have proven the effect of honey as a soothing remedy for coughs, especially chesty coughs. A spoonful before going to bed or during the day, pure or dissolved in tea, can work wonders!
Honey can prevent cancer
Flavonoids, which are powerful antioxidants naturally found in honey, can reduce the risk of cancer and various heart diseases.
Honey stabilises blood sugar
Lunch is often to blame for the well-known energy slump in the afternoon: Blood sugar plummets, you feel tired and can no longer concentrate. Instead of reaching for sugar or coffee, honey can help. The combination of glucose and fructose in honey helps the body to regulate blood sugar levels and keep them constant.
Honey has an (almost) eternal shelf life
Honey is the food with the longest known shelf life: a jar of honey can remain edible for up to 3000 years! This is probably the greatest proof of honey's strong cleansing and antibacterial properties.
Attention - not suitable for babies!
Despite all its benefits, honey is not suitable for children under the age of one. In the first few months of life, the body is still too weak to protect itself against possible food poisoning, which is why honey should be avoided.
... Fancy some honey?
Biomazing recommends choosing organic honey. This supports organic farmers and their healthy and sometimes wild bee colonies. Another advantage: there are no or only minimal chemical substances and residues of sprays and fertilisers in the honey.
