Did you know that make-up brushes are a major risk of injury for people with motor impairments? And that they can therefore only use brushes with great difficulty or not at all? Neither did we, so at first we felt pretty ignorant.

Kohl Kreatives produces make-up brushes that can also - but of course not only - be used by people with special motor needs. The highlight here is that the brushes are completely flexible; they can be used from any angle, which minimises the risk of injury - e.g. from seizures. They are also free-standing - so they stand alone - so they don't roll away and are easy to pick up.

An idea for very special needs

Trish Deswaney is a make-up artist and the woman behind the brand "Kohl Kreatives". The idea came about when she watched a film about a girl with cancer:

"One scene really touched me: The girl goes to the "Abiball", which takes place in the hospital, wearing a wig, make-up and false eyelashes. At that moment, she is incredibly happy, to be able to experience the same as others their age. That was the moment when I knew: this is exactly the feeling I want to give people."

Kohl Kreatives was born: A fire that helps people to feel beautiful and comfortable; an attitude to life that has been lost or never experienced due to serious illness or accidents. People with trichotillomania, alopecia or vitiligo, severe scars, birthmarks or ongoing chemotherapy should be able to enjoy new self-confidence and joie de vivre.

Make-up brushes that can do more than others

"The design process was primarily about understanding the needs (...) of people with MS, Parkinson's, cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy, for example. The high flexibility and pliability of the brushes make it much easier for people to apply their make-up.
During my research, for example, I found out that many people who experience tremors feel the same way, hurt with brushes because they are so stiff. That doesn't happen with our brushes because they are completely flexible, so a "bounce" doesn't hurt. They also stand on their own and are much easier to grip and hold than a pen."

Why is this topic so important to us at BIOMAZING?

Make-up can give people new self-confidence and a zest for life. It can also restore an element of daily routine that has been lost due to illness or other circumstances. And it can realise an attitude to life that may not have existed before. One of the centrepieces of Kohl Kreatives is helping cancer patients to regain facial features that have been lost due to illness or treatment.

A brand that doesn't want to make a profit?

You read that right: Kohl Kreatives is a non-profit brand. This means that all proceeds from sales go directly to the charitable foundation Cabbage Kares flow. This foundation offers workshops, among other things. These are free of charge for participants and are often literally life-changing. Kohl Kares also supports the transgender community and creates a community in which people of all genders and non-binary gender identities can feel comfortable.

Kohl Kreatives is currently supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust. Young people and teenagers who have been diagnosed with cancer are supported in feeling beautiful and comfortable again with the help of make-up and special tips & tricks from Trish Deswaney. Brushes that do not roll away, are bendable and do not hurt

Imparting knowledge can build bridges and close gaps. That is ultimately my goal."
