Misunderstood all-rounder: apricot kernel oil

unrecognised all-rounder apricot oil cover picture

Although coconut oil is booming as an all-rounder, an old, rediscovered all-rounder is slowly but surely making its presence felt, glistening golden and calm in the bottle and working wonders for hair, skin, after-sun and even as baby care: cosmetic apricot kernel oil.

Origin
Originally from China, the apricot tree is now cultivated in the Mediterranean region as well as in South Africa, New Zealand and Eastern Europe to provide us with delicious fruit and valuable oil. The oil is not only used for cosmetic purposes, but is also excellent as a fine edible oil and, due to its composition, is considered to be particularly beneficial to health.

Manufacture
Apricot kernel oil is the oil extracted from the kernels of the apricot. It is obtained by pressing the valuable kernels purely mechanically. High-quality apricot kernel oil is cold-pressed and is therefore suitable for consumption and cosmetic use. Apricot kernel oil that is refined has a longer shelf life, but there is a reduction in quality. The cold-pressed oil has an intense flavour and aroma.
Apricot kernel oil for cosmetic use is light yellow in colour and has a characteristic apricot and marzipan scent.

Composition
The speciality of apricot kernel oil is its universal ability as a base oil. Due to the kink structure of the oleic acid, it is absorbed very quickly and easily. It is very similar to almond oil and both oils consist of around 65% unsaturated fatty acids. Due to the essential fatty acids and vitamins E and B, apricot kernel oil is considered to be of particularly high quality.

Cosmetically used apricot kernel oil has a high oleic acid content and, due to its pangamic acid content, the oil has a stimulating effect on the oxygen supply to cells. The oil can therefore help to regenerate our skin cells and supply them with moisture.

Use & advantages
Apricot kernel oil is particularly suitable for sensitive and dehydrated skin, both as a base oil, pure oil and for mixing with creams and other products. The oil is pleasant on the skin and is quickly absorbed. To make the day care a little more intensive and moisturising, you can mix a few drops of cosmetic apricot kernel oil with the desired moisturiser and apply this mixture to the skin. Especially in months when our skin is very dry and irritated, you can guarantee that it is sufficiently moisturised.

But apricot kernel oil can do even more! Apricot kernel oil is particularly popular for baby care and as a make-up remover (alternative to coconut oil, see here). Due to its chemical structure and special composition, it is very mild and gentle on the skin.

Apricot kernel oil also helps after sunbathing as a cooling and regenerating after-sun care product. This can be ideally combined with the other great applications of pure apricot kernel oil: As a massage oil, bath oil and for hair treatments.

Incidentally, the apricot is the symbol for a young girl in China. Coincidence? Hardly, because apricot kernel oil is a pure fountain of youth for the skin!

.
Durability and quality If you would like to try apricot kernel oil, the Farfalla Apricot Kernel Oil highly recommended. Unlike other cosmetic oils, this oil is not refined or bleached, which is a huge plus from a health point of view. This also means that you should try to use it up in about 8-10 months and store it at room temperature and protected.
The focus of Biomazing is to offer the best products of the highest quality. The apricot kernel oil from farfalla is a Swiss product that is also vegan, biodegradable, produced without animal testing, additives and according to fair trade principles.
